Overall objectiveThe objective of WP 1 concerns the mapping and assessment of the economical structure and organisation of the fresh produce supply chain at European and global levels and the identification of new trends in European consumption patterns.
Strategy:To achieve the objectives several tasks will be elaborated :
- Description of the economical structure and organisation of production, processing and trade of fresh produce of representative EU and EU trading partners;
- Assessment of economic and post-harvest issues related to the performance of fresh produce export supply chains;
- A survey (both literature and inquiry) of fresh produce handling practices and fresh produce consumption trends and patterns.
These tasks will result in benchmarking related to fresh produce production, processing, trade, handling and consumption between companies/countries in EU and globally. The output will serve as a basis for the selection of case studies of fruits and vegetables in the Veg-i-Trade project and will provide input for risk assessment studies and risk ranking. It will also support the identification of emerging issues of concern in the fresh produce supply chain.
